Candace Cameron Bure became tearful on a recent episode of The Candace Cameron Bure Podcast as she discussed the persistent criticism she receives regarding her voice.
"I get a lot of criticism for my voice," Bure shared on Tuesday's episode. "People always comment [on] how annoying my voice is." She recalled reading a comment where a listener stated they had to "turn off [their] TV because [Bure's] voice is so annoying."
While wiping away tears, Bure described the negative feedback about her speaking voice as "constant" and difficult to handle. However, she stated that reading Bible verses aloud on social media has helped her cope with these insecurities.
"I've never had more people say to me, 'I love to hear you read the Bible. You make the Bible come alive for me. Will you keep reading the Bible please? I love the sound of your voice,'" Bure said, referencing the positive reactions. "It feels so redemptive that, like, God's using the very thing that glorifies him and the thing that's brought me pain and then be rewarded for it."
Bure explained that her emotional reaction on the podcast stemmed from a moment of self-consciousness about her voice, as her listeners are hearing it directly. "But I have a podcast and we're sharing Jesus. And that's what my heart is. My heart is just to bring people one step closer to Jesus."
This candid admission follows other instances of public criticism Bure has addressed. Last September, she faced backlash after posting a bikini photo on Instagram. Initially deleting the post due to body-shaming comments, she later reposted a photo of herself in a crop top. At the time, Bure stated she took the bikini photo down because "the comments became flooded with people discussing my body." She also noted that the situation "wasn't worth it."
Bure has previously spoken about her struggles with eating disorders and body dysmorphia. In her 2010 memoir "Reshaping It All," she discussed her history of disordered eating and bulimia, noting that she found solace in her faith. In April 2025, she mentioned having vivid memories of feeling self-conscious about her appearance in elementary school and trying numerous diets since age 12.
