A California model and content creator has stated that American men possess superior "game" compared to their Australian counterparts, citing difficulties she encountered while dating in Australia. Kit Barrus, 28, described Australian men as "nonchalant" and "socially and aesthetically conservative," contrasting them with American men whom she finds more "romantic."
Barrus, who reportedly earns approximately $400,000 USD per month from online content creation, explained that her profession also presented hurdles on Australian dating apps. She noted struggling to find matches on Hinge during a recent visit to the country. "Australia is a lot more conservative than America... People in Australia are just like, 'Nah,'" she told the Daily Mail.
She also reported experiencing extreme reactions from men upon revealing her career. Some were overly enthusiastic due to a perceived fetish or financial aspect, while others reacted with immediate negativity. "You fall into this weird place where men can be too excited to date you because you have a little bit of money and because it's like a fetish for them. Or they kind of hate you right out of the gate," Barrus stated.
Beyond romantic approaches, Barrus highlighted perceived differences in career stability. She claimed that some Australian men she matched with had less conventional employment, citing examples like working for DoorDash. "These boys don't have jobs," she said, expressing a preference against significant power imbalances in relationships, which she felt was a common outcome when dating in Australia. She indicated no interest in dating within the content creator industry as an alternative.
Barrus concluded that "American men are down for a romantic adventure. Aussie men save the adventure for the outdoors."
