Britney Spears posted a video of herself dancing in a sushi-restaurant bathroom while on a date with an unidentified man, a move that friends and family described as alarming as the pop star re-enters public dating after a series of high-profile breakups.

In the clip, Spears, 43, is seen gyrating in a short black slip dress and leopard-print heeled boots while music played over a speaker; she captioned the post, "Dinner sushi date but I have my own girl party in the bathroom!!!" She later added in the post, "Yummy, the guy was absolutely horrible," and wrote, "Psss show effort, no makeup." The video, first reported by the Daily Mail, drew concern from people close to Spears who said the episode was "horrible" and worrying.

A source close to the Spears family told the Daily Mail there was "no way" the man was met on a dating app or through a blind date, and that prospective suitors have sometimes contacted the singer through direct messages on social media platforms. The source said Spears "has responded to people on social media, but rarely," and that she is "attracted to confidence" when evaluating potential partners.

The post follows Spears's split from Paul Soliz, a member of her household staff who the star had been linked to; that relationship ended in July 2024. It also comes after her widely publicized marriage to model Sam Asghari, whom she married in June 2022; Asghari filed for divorce in August 2023, and the divorce was finalized in May 2024. Earlier in her life, Spears was married to Kevin Federline from 2004 to 2007; the pair share two sons, Sean Preston, 19, and Jayden James, 18. Federline was granted sole physical and legal custody, and over 17 years Spears paid more than an estimated $5 million in child support, according to previously reported details.

Friends and relatives interviewed by the Daily Mail expressed broader worries about Spears's well-being beyond the dating episode, citing a recent series of social-media posts they described as erratic. Those posts have included videos in which Spears said she burned down a bathroom and others showing her dancing with knives. A source quoted by the outlet said Spears was "having an episode right now, and we are going to see her battle through it the way she has for years." The source added that family members monitor her but have been reluctant to intervene for fear of alienating her or triggering outside activism, referencing the "Free Britney" movement that accompanied the end of her conservatorship.

Spears's conservatorship, which lasted 13 years and was largely controlled by her father, Jamie Spears, ended in November 2021 following public scrutiny and legal battles. In 2023, she published a memoir, The Woman in Me, that detailed aspects of past relationships and the conservatorship. The book contained a claim that Justin Timberlake urged her to have an abortion when she became pregnant at 19; Timberlake has denied that characterization in other public statements.

Those close to Spears told the Daily Mail they worry about whether men she meets have her best interests at heart, posing the question of whether a suitor is sincere or seeking financial gain. "No one begrudges her looking for someone to be with, but there is always going to be the question about whether the guy has her best interests at heart," one family source said.

Spears's public behavior has prompted other incidents of concern in recent years. In May of the previous year, hotel staff and emergency responders were involved in an episode at the Chateau Marmont after photographs showed Spears being escorted out wrapped in a blanket; Spears later said she had twisted her ankle. Family members quoted by the Daily Mail said they are "terrified for her future" and that her home has at times been "messy," with criticism that she was not maintaining daily routines.

Representatives for Spears did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The Daily Mail said it had contacted her representatives for comment in its report.
