Billie Eilish has begun filming her first major acting role in Toronto, appearing on the set of Sarah Polley's adaptation of Sylvia Plath's novel, "The Bell Jar." Eilish, 24, is set to make her big-screen debut in the film, where she will portray Esther Greenwood, a 19-year-old Boston student.

Filming images show Eilish dressed in various outfits, including a patterned yellow dress layered with an oversized green fleece, and a large, button-up light blue shirt. She was seen carrying a water bottle and wearing black boots.

The role marks a significant career move for the "Bad Guy" singer, who has been open about her struggles with depression and anxiety. The character of Esther Greenwood in Plath's novel experiences clinical depression, leading to hospitalization and a suicide attempt.

In March, it was reported that Eilish was in "advanced talks" for the project. The film adaptation is directed by Sarah Polley, whose previous directorial work includes "Women Talking," "Stories We Tell," "Take This Waltz," and "Away from Her."

Actress Carey Mulligan, 41, who plays Eilish's mother in the film, was also present on set. Mulligan recently starred in "Beef" season two and has received critical acclaim for her roles in films such as "An Education," "Promising Young Woman," and "Maestro."

"The Bell Jar" is based on Plath's semi-autobiographical novel, published in 1963. The story follows Esther Greenwood's quest to forge an identity amidst societal pressures and her own mental health struggles. Plath herself had an internship at Mademoiselle in 1953 before experiencing mental health issues and later dying by suicide at age 30.

Connor Storrie is also rumored to be part of the cast, according to reports.
