Billionaire artist Beyoncé is facing online criticism for the high price of her latest merchandise. The singer's "Bey Keeper Collector's Box," a limited-edition item available for purchase on her website, is priced at $948.01, with shipping and taxes bringing the total cost to over $1,000.
The 18-by-14-inch pine wood crate is described as being designed to "house and display your Beyoncé vinyl collection." It features custom engraved details and a faux alligator-skin leather carrying strap with gold hardware, inspired by traditional beekeeper crates. The interior is lined with deep green velvet. However, the product description explicitly states that "vinyls [are] not included."
The hefty price point and the fact that the box is empty have drawn considerable negative attention on social media. The release coincided with Beyoncé's 45th birthday and marked the 20th anniversary of her second album, "B’Day." The price itself is a nod to her birthdate, September 4, 1981.
Social media users have expressed disbelief and frustration, with many calling the price "absurd" and an "insane robbery." Some compared the item to a "coffin for a hamster" or questioned the cost of pine wood. "This would’ve made sense if vinyls were included but almost 1k for just the box by itself…? girl no," one user commented on Instagram.
Despite the backlash, some fans defended the purchase, with one user stating, "Idk bout y’all, but i’ma do WHAT I WANT!" Others speculated that the box might contain hidden "Easter eggs" or surprises. Beyoncé, who achieved billionaire status last year, has not yet publicly commented on the public reaction to the collector's box. The limited-edition item was part of a 500-unit release.
