Ashley Graham accidentally revealed her clothing size in an Instagram post Friday while previewing a piece from her upcoming collection for JCPenney.
The 37-year-old model was holding up a brown faux-leather jacket she designed for the line when the size on the interior tag — marked "0X" — was visible in the photo. Graham, who has previously said she does not want to be labeled a "plus-size model," did not comment further on the size after the post.
Retail sizing is not uniform, and manufacturers vary in their definitions, but 0X is typically listed as smaller than 1X and larger than XL. It often corresponds to a U.S. women's size 14W or 16W, though the equivalent can differ by brand. Graham has historically avoided publicly naming a specific size; media and public estimates have placed her anywhere from about a 12 to a 16.
In her Instagram caption she wrote, "Sneak peak of some pieces from my collection (eeeekkk!!) ((am I allowed to show these yet? )) (((I can NOT wait to show you more!)))" JCPenney announced in April that it had tapped Graham to create an exclusive namesake collection aimed at the full-figured woman. The company said the line, launching this fall, will "reflect Graham's signature bold and confident style." Graham said at the time, "This is something I've dreamed about for a long time."
Graham rose to prominence as a commercial and editorial model and has appeared on the cover of Vogue. She has been a visible advocate for more inclusive sizing in fashion while also expressing discomfort with labels tied to body size. The accidental display of a garment tag highlights the inconsistent nature of women's sizing across retailers and the continued public attention on celebrity measurements.
The collection with JCPenney is among several collaborations between mainstream retailers and models or designers aimed at expanding size ranges. JCPenney did not immediately respond to a request for additional comment regarding the Instagram post or specific sizing standards for the Graham collection.
