Anna Faris has revealed that she has stopped drinking, a decision that has contributed to a significant shift in her mental well-being. In an interview on the "Dear Chelsea" podcast, the "Mom" alum stated that she began to feel "ungracious" about her comedic acting career only in the last year, coinciding with her sobriety.
"Turns out there's a correlation between drinking and depression for me for sure," Faris told host Chelsea Handler. "I had to take a step back to not self-sabotage."
The actress, 49, also credited hormone patches with making a "huge difference" in her mental health. While she did not specify when she began abstaining from alcohol, she indicated the change took place within the last year. Faris's representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Previously, Faris played a newly sober single mother on the CBS series "Mom" from 2013 to 2020. She departed the show one season before its conclusion, citing the "intensity" of the work as a reason for her exit. "I started to lose my focus," Faris recalled in a June interview, adding that it was a "complicated time."
During the podcast episode, Faris also spoke about her past relationships and her 13-year-old son, Jack, whom she shares with ex-husband Chris Pratt. She characterized her current marriage to Michael Barrett as "third time is a charm," reflecting on her need to understand how she wanted to be loved. She described Jack as emotionally "solid as a tugboat" and noted his religious upbringing and his questioning of hypocrisy.
Faris gave birth to Jack in 2012, five years before her split from Pratt. Pratt has since welcomed three more children with his wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger.
