Waffle House is currently testing seven new taco varieties at approximately 45 locations in the Atlanta metropolitan area. This limited-time offering includes breakfast tacos and lunch and dinner melt options, all available around the clock.
The breakfast taco is offered with egg and cheese, alongside a choice of bacon, sausage, chicken sausage, or ham. The lunch and dinner selections feature a cheesesteak melt, chicken melt, or patty melt.
"We are always looking to test new menu items, and tacos are delicious," a Waffle House spokesperson told Fox News Digital. While the company has not provided specific sales figures, the spokesperson noted that "the early feedback has been positive" since the rollout began about a week ago.
However, social media reactions to the new items have been mixed. Some online users expressed enthusiasm, with one Instagram user commenting, "I bet they're fire too," while another wrote, "Looks like they got the message that different times call for different measures and adapt to changes! SURVIVAL." Others voiced skepticism, with one user on Instagram stating, "We're about to witness the downfall of Waffle House with this foolishness," and another commenting, "That's an absolute no."
In a Reddit forum discussing the tacos, some customers questioned the addition of new items to a menu known for its classic breakfast fare. One user wrote, "I've worked in kitchens for 20 years, and honestly, I don't like when successful restaurants start adding unnecessary items." Another Redditor suggested that while "basic breakfast tacos would be incredible," they would prefer to go to a dedicated Mexican restaurant for traditional tacos. Another commenter noted that Waffle House would likely already have the necessary ingredients on hand.
Waffle House, a chain founded in 1955 and known for its waffles and customizable hash browns, has introduced other new items in recent years. Earlier in 2024, the restaurant tested a Fiesta Chicken Protein Bowl. In 2023, chicken sausage was added to menus, and in late 2023, nine Atlanta-area restaurants trialed canned Classic Blend Cold Brew coffee.
