Singapore Auctions Luxury Goods Seized in Massive Money Laundering Case
High-end handbags, jewelry, and watches from a $2.2 billion illicit fund case are being auctioned by Singapore authorities.
Singapore has commenced the auction of luxury items confiscated by police as part of a colossal $2.2 billion money laundering investigation that surfaced in the city-state in 2023. The proceeds from the auction are intended for the state.
The seized items, including an array of high-end handbags, exquisite jewelry, and luxury watches, are being stored at Le Freeport, a secure, fortified facility designed for the safekeeping of valuables. The BBC was granted exclusive access to this facility to view the collection before it goes to auction.
The money laundering case, which came to light in August 2023, involved a significant sum and a wide-ranging police investigation. The items now up for auction represent a fraction of the assets involved in the criminal activities.
