Costco has expanded its home delivery services to include made-to-order bakery and deli items, a move that allows customers to order custom cakes and party platters online for the first time. The new offering is available nationwide through Instacart and Costco's SameDay service.

Previously, shoppers had to visit a warehouse store in person to order popular items such as the iconic sheet cakes, sandwich platters, shrimp trays, and fruit platters. With this upgrade, customers can now customize their orders online, selecting cake size, shape, flavor, design, and adding personalized messages of up to 30 characters.

This expansion marks a significant development in the partnership between Costco and Instacart, which began in 2017. A representative for Instacart stated that this is an "exciting step" in their collaboration, enabling Costco's bakery and deli items to be available for delivery through the Instacart marketplace.

Customer feedback shared on platforms like Reddit indicates a positive reception. One user described ordering a birthday cake as an "amazing and easy" experience, praising the decoration and ease of ordering and pickup. Another user recounted a positive interaction with a baker who helped correct a spelling error on a graduation cake order.

The new delivery option for bakery and deli items has been available since August 26. On Instacart, a half sheet custom cake with roses is priced at approximately $34.82 before fees and tip, while a custom 10-inch round cake costs $22.38 and is available in chocolate and vanilla flavors.

Costco's food court also continues to be a draw for shoppers, featuring items like the $1.50 hot dog and soda combo and the $3.99 chicken bake. While the company recently replaced its popular twisted churro with a $2.99 caramel churro sundae, its food court remains a significant attraction.
