Costco has quietly discontinued its Costco Next platform, an online marketplace that provided members with discounted products from third-party suppliers. The service, launched in 2017 and expanded in 2021, offered a curated selection of goods from various brands.
The abrupt closure means members no longer have access to the deals previously available through the platform. A simple statement on Costco's website now indicates that "Access to Costco Next storefronts is no longer available." The company has not provided a reason for the shutdown.
Costco Next aimed to create a mutually beneficial environment, allowing third-party sellers to reach Costco's extensive customer base while offering members exclusive savings. Initially featuring a small number of brands, the platform grew to include nearly 100 third-party sellers by 2024 and 2025. Some of the vendors previously featured include Anker, Caraway, and Priority Bicycles.
For questions regarding warranties, returns, or cancellations for items purchased through Costco Next, customers are now directed to contact the respective vendors directly. The Costco customer support page provides a list of vendors with active return policies.
In recent months, Costco has introduced other new initiatives. Last month, the wholesale retailer announced its entry into the Medicare market, partnering with nonprofit insurer SCAN Group to offer store-branded Medicare plans. These plans are intended to provide additional value to senior members and will be sold in Costco stores, through insurance agents, and online, with a limited rollout planned for two states initially. Future offerings from Costco and SCAN Group may include enhancements to the pharmacy experience and benefits like a Medicare Flex Card for over-the-counter purchases.
