Burger King is launching a revamped chicken nugget, its latest move in a multiyear turnaround strategy aimed at boosting sales and customer satisfaction. The new nuggets, along with an updated sauce lineup, will be available nationwide starting Tuesday, September 1.

This initiative follows the successful revamp of the Whopper, which contributed to a significant increase in the company's same-store sales. In the previous quarter, Burger King reported an 8.5% surge in US same-store sales, outpacing competitors like McDonald's and solidifying its position as the country's second-largest burger chain.

Amy Alarcon, head chef at Burger King US and Canada, stated that the decision to overhaul the nuggets was a direct response to extensive customer feedback. "We take guest feedback seriously, and when we received thousands of texts, calls, and comments telling us our nuggets needed a total overhaul, we listened," Alarcon said. The culinary team reportedly re-evaluated every component, from the chicken and breading to the sauces, testing new recipes with "real guests," including children, to refine the product.

The new sauce offerings will include honey mustard, buffalo, sweet & sour, and a limited-time special savory sauce. Pricing for the nuggets will range from approximately $1.99 for a four-piece to $7.49 for a 20-piece.

This focus on chicken aligns with broader industry trends. As beef prices rise and consumers seek more affordable options, many fast-food chains have been expanding their chicken-centric menus. Taco Bell, McDonald's, and KFC have all introduced new chicken products or expanded their chicken offerings.

Burger King's turnaround efforts also include initiatives like the "Whopper Guarantee," which offers customers a free sandwich if they are dissatisfied with their purchase, and the creation of "Your Way Champions" to focus on customer experience. The company launched a customer feedback initiative in February, providing a phone number for customers to share their thoughts. Earlier this year, the chain briefly reintroduced its crown-shaped nuggets, but this iteration faced criticism for its recipe.

Founded in 1951, Burger King operates over 19,000 locations globally, with most owned and managed by independent franchisees.
