Burger King is overhauling its chicken nugget recipe in response to thousands of customer complaints, marking the latest step in the fast-food giant's effort to enhance its menu and customer experience. The revamped nuggets are slated to appear in U.S. restaurants on September 1, promising a more flavorful and juicy product.
According to the company, the culinary team re-evaluated every aspect of the nugget, from the chicken and breading to the accompanying sauces. Real customers, including children, were involved in testing and refining the recipe to meet consumer demands for improved quality and taste. The new nuggets are crafted from 100 percent white meat chicken and feature a new marinade intended to increase juiciness. The packaging is also changing, with nuggets now being served in boxes instead of their previous paper packaging.
Burger King stated that customer feedback often described the previous version as "rubbery," "dry," and "disappointing." This direct feedback prompted the company to redevelop the recipe. Burger King's president, Tom Curtis, acknowledged the need for improvement, aiming for a "meatier, crispier nugget and sauces that make my taste buds dance."
In addition to the nuggets, Burger King is also updating its dipping sauces, including honey mustard, buffalo, and sweet & sour. A new limited-time "Special Savory Sauce" will also be introduced, described as a blend of creamy and tangy flavors with a hint of spice, incorporating notes of barbecue seasoning, ketchup, garlic, onion, and black pepper.
This nugget refresh follows a similar update to Burger King's signature Whopper burger, which received an "elevated" version earlier this year. That overhaul included a more premium bun and new mayonnaise, served in a box instead of paper wrapping, based on guest feedback.
