A woman was rescued by a crane after becoming stuck on a 13-foot perimeter fence while attempting to sneak into a crowded World Cup fan zone in Monterrey, Mexico.
The incident occurred on Wednesday as thousands gathered to watch the Round of 16 match between Mexico and Ecuador at Fundidora Park. All access points to the fan zone had been closed due to reaching full capacity.
The fan became wedged on the metal barrier while trying to scale it, finding herself unable to move forward or climb back down. After initial attempts to free her failed, emergency services were called.
A telescopic crane was deployed to safely lower the woman from the fence. Civil Protection and emergency teams coordinated the rescue, which concluded without further incident. Following health checks, the fan was able to leave the area.
Authorities had previously advised fans to watch the match at alternative locations, such as the Macroplaza, as reported by creatorzine.com.
Mexico defeated Ecuador 2-0 in the match, with goals from Julián Quiñones and Raúl Jiménez securing a victory that ended a 40-year knockout-stage drought for the team. Mexico is scheduled to play England in the next round on July 5 at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.
