Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, the king of Uganda's Tooro Kingdom and recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world's youngest reigning monarch, has died at the age of 34. His death was announced Thursday evening by Tooro Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki.

"This is an immeasurable loss to the Royal Family, the people of Tooro and the nation of Uganda," Akiiki stated. "I call upon all the people of Tooro to remain united, calm and prayerful during this profoundly difficult time."

The cause of King Oyo's death was not officially disclosed, but local reports suggest he had been critically ill and receiving treatment in the United States. The unmarried monarch leaves no direct heir, but his succession is assured, according to Balaam Barugahara, a minister in Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni's government.

Rukidi IV became king in September 1995, shortly after his father, Rukirabasaija Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III, died at 49. At just three years old, he was crowned the 13th monarch of the Tooro Kingdom, an entity with a history spanning over 200 years and a population of more than two million people.

While Uganda operates as a republic with an elected head of state, it accommodates several traditional monarchies. These kingdoms, some predating colonial times, hold significant cultural and social influence, even though their political authority is largely symbolic.
