Fawaz Oyedeji, 19, has been jailed for four years after attempting to steal a £72,000 Porsche Cayenne by holding its owner at gunpoint. The incident occurred in March of last year when Oyedeji posed as a potential buyer and arranged to meet the seller at their home in Southwark, London.

After being shown the vehicle and getting inside with the seller, Oyedeji produced a gun and demanded the car keys. However, the victim resisted the threat, prompting Oyedeji to flee the scene. The seller immediately contacted the police, who gathered CCTV and dashcam footage. Oyedeji was arrested at his home in Greenwich less than two days later.

In August, Oyedeji was convicted of attempted robbery and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offense. He was sentenced at Inner London Crown Court on November 5, 2026. Detective Constable Alex Long praised the victim's courage and highlighted the diligence of officers in collecting evidence that led to the conviction. He also advised the public to take precautions when buying or selling vehicles privately and to trust their instincts, calling 999 in emergencies. The Metropolitan Police reported seizing 676 firearms and 2,894 knives in the past year as part of efforts to combat violent crime.
