London police have launched a manhunt following the death of a 75-year-old woman who was the victim of an aggravated burglary at her home. An 81-year-old man was also injured in the incident.
Authorities were called to reports of the burglary in Tollington Park, Finsbury Square, around 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday. The woman was taken to a hospital, where she died approximately 24 hours later. The 81-year-old man, also hospitalized, was discharged the following day.
A crime scene remains established at the residence and along Evershot Road as investigations continue. A post-mortem examination is scheduled to determine the woman's cause of death.
Detective Chief Inspector Ben Massink stated that the investigation is in its early stages. "We are awaiting a post-mortem examination to determine how the woman died, with my team working hard to pursue all lines of enquiry," Massink said. He added that evidence is being gathered and appealed for witnesses, particularly those with doorbell footage or any information, to come forward, emphasizing that no detail is too small.
Superintendent Mark Hambleton acknowledged the concern within the community and reassured residents that officers are working to ascertain the facts of the incident. An increased police presence will be maintained in the area while inquiries proceed.
