Travellers seeking last‑minute autumn sunshine are finding unusually large discounts across a wide range of destinations, with some packages reduced by as much as two‑thirds and many deals offered at half price.

Industry figures say a combination of factors has created a glut of late bargains this month and next, as holiday apps become easier to use, comparison platforms simplify bargain hunting and consumers grow more comfortable booking at short notice. Tui said the market this year was "characterised by a highly competitive environment with a continuing trend towards later bookings." Analysts also cite a hot British summer that kept many potential buyers at home and unease about travel linked to the conflict in the Middle East as contributing factors.

The range of offers spans short Mediterranean breaks, family mid‑term options, long‑haul luxury and adventure travel. For those after the cheapest option, departures from Birmingham this month include a week at the three‑star Epic Hotel in Marmaris, Turkey, from £89 per person; the property has two pools and a water slide and sits about a half‑hour walk from the beach, with regular buses to nearby restaurants and shops.

Luxury long‑haul discounts include a 50 percent saving on an eight‑night stay in a beach villa at COMO Maalifushi in the Maldives, priced from £4,299 per person in September with free half‑board and seaplane transfers included. River and ocean cruise operators are also cutting prices: a seven‑night "Brilliant Bordeaux" cruise with Uniworld is available from £2,401 per person in late September — about 30 percent off — while MSC Cruises offers a seven‑night Northern Europe full‑board sailing from Southampton from £575 per person in late October, down from £629.

Greece remains a strong value option. An adults‑only week at the Zante Dreams Hotel in Laganas, Zakynthos, is available from £250 room‑only for a Sept. 21 departure, including return flights from London Gatwick. On the quieter Ionian island of Meganisi a seven‑night villa stay with a small private pool and sea views is being marketed from £609 per person for departures in October — roughly half the usual price.

Egypt and the Red Sea have seen price cuts as well. Seven nights at the Cook's Club in El Gouna, a lagoon‑side resort with a large pool, is offered from £900 per person departing Oct. 13, a saving of about £427 from the regular rate. An escorted six‑night "Pharaohs, Feluccas and Pyramids" tour departing Oct. 25 is on sale from £1,595 per adult and £1,495 per child, reduced by roughly £200 and £100 respectively, and includes full board, flights and guided activities.

Family‑oriented options include discounted chalet weeks in the French Alps. A seven‑night stay at Mazot de la Caillere near La Giettaz is available from £770 from Oct. 25, with flights to nearby Geneva from about £135. The Algarve is also promoting family breaks: five nights for two adults and two children in a suite at Marriott Residences Salgados Resort, including flights from Luton, is marketed from £539 per person for an Oct. 27 departure.

Adventure and wildlife itineraries have not been overlooked. Intrepid Travel has a 15‑day guided trek to Everest Base Camp departing Oct. 31 priced from £886 per person — a 30 percent reduction — though the company notes the trip requires a high fitness level and additional international flights. A 10‑day Botswana safari based at Chobe Safari Lodge, including game drives and a river cruise plus return flights, is reduced by about £450 to £3,945 per person.

Short‑haul beach and party destinations show steep reductions. Jet2holidays lists a week at Htop Platja Park on Spain's Costa Brava from £371 per person all‑inclusive for a Sept. 27 departure, and a stay at Ibiza Rocks in San Antonio is priced from £279 per person for a week in October. For a classic US sunshine escape, British Airways is marketing a seven‑night stay at The Westin Cape Coral in Florida from £780 per person for late September departures, approximately 25 percent off.

Rail and barge options have been repriced for autumn travel. A 12‑night escorted rail tour of Slovenia, Croatia and Montenegro that uses Eurostar to begin the journey is now offered from £2,589 per person for an Oct. 5 departure, while a six‑night hotel barge cruise through Belgium on MS Raymonde is available from £2,129 per person including Eurostar and onboard bicycles.

Operators urged caution about availability: popular properties and specific departure dates can sell out quickly, and some discounted packages apply only to selected dates in September and October. Several companies require advance booking for transfers or optional excursions and state that international flights are excluded from certain advertised prices.

Travel agents and comparison sites said the current environment is likely to keep producing late bargains for the autumn, as customers who previously preferred to plan well in advance become more willing to buy close to travel dates. The trend could continue into the winter season if demand remains variable and carriers and tour operators choose to clear inventory with steep short‑term discounts.
