A husband, in his 60s, who admitted to raping his wife over a 20-year period, is accused of drugging her and inviting multiple men to abuse her. Nine other men are currently on trial, facing charges related to sexual abuse.
The court heard that the husband began inviting men he met online to the couple's home in 2023. By February of the following year, the abuse allegedly escalated, with the husband inviting men to the house "one after the other." On one occasion, in the early hours of February 9, 2025, the husband allegedly drugged his wife with a crushed tablet mixed with water. Prosecutor Louise Oakley stated that the husband used a pipette to administer the substance while his wife was already intoxicated.
Philip Wild, 58, who the husband had contacted via the wife-swapping website FabSwingers, allegedly arrived at 2:50 a.m. and stayed for less than half an hour. Wild is accused of attempted rape and sexual assault during this visit, which he denies. Jurors were told that the husband took images of the encounter while his wife was unconscious. Following Wild's departure, the husband allegedly searched FabSwingers again for another man. Mohammed Sabir, 29, reportedly arrived at 4:36 a.m. and proceeded to the bedroom to abuse the wife. Oakley stated that Sabir knew the wife was not conscious and unable to consent.
Sabir is alleged to have raped the woman. The husband is said to have taken dozens of pictures, including one described by Oakley as showing the wife "hanging out of the bed" and "looking like a rag doll." After the wife stirred, the men reportedly went downstairs. Oakley told the court that after Sabir's visit, the husband asked him to "leave a review, like you do on TripAdvisor."
The review, presented to the jury, was left on FabSwingers. Sabir reportedly described it as "really easy to set up a meet" and his "first experience of ******* someone's wife in front of them."
The court heard that this was not the only instance of two men visiting the house on the same night. On September 24, 2024, another defendant, Graham Brougham, 74, allegedly visited the house, followed later by Sean Peers, 38. Brougham has admitted to raping and sexually assaulting the wife at an earlier hearing. Peers is alleged to have sexually assaulted the wife during his visit.
Images of the abuse were reportedly shared online by the husband with a co-defendant, Daniel Rayner, who allegedly commented on the arrangement. Rayner is also accused of discussing obtaining GHB from an individual in Thailand.
The husband also allegedly hosted Keith Fotheringham, a university technician, in October 2024. A total of eight videos and 75 photographs were reportedly taken during Fotheringham's visit. Fotheringham has pleaded guilty to sexual assault, conspiracy to rape, and conspiracy to administer substances. His involvement allegedly extended to supplying drugs to the husband in exchange for images.
During the presentation of videos and images to the jury, one of the wife's adult children reportedly left the courtroom. The prosecutor also detailed a sexual assault lasting over two hours, perpetrated by the husband alone in the early hours of July 28, 2024, while the wife was unconscious.
Police reportedly found a "very large quantity of pipettes" in the garden shed and others in the bedroom, containing traces of medication used to drug the wife.
On trial are David Graves, 60; Jonathan Kirk, 43; Robert Stewart, 70; Mohammed Sabir, 29; Alan Keelan, 42; Jordan Wallace, 31; Philip Wild, 58; Richard Townsend, 38; and Daniel Rayner, 42. All defendants deny a variety of sexual offenses.
Earlier in September, the wife's husband admitted 62 charges, including multiple counts of rape. Stewart, who allegedly sent a message to the husband urging him to "delete all images" and referencing a case in France involving a man who raped his wife, denies two counts of rape. The trial is expected to last at least two months.
