Royal Mail has launched an investigation after hundreds of letters were found dumped on the outskirts of Derry.

The discovery was made near the Coshquin area, with a significant amount of undelivered mail recovered.

A spokesperson for Royal Mail stated that they were "very concerned" to learn of the incident and that an immediate investigation was underway to understand how the mail came to be discarded. They added that the company has a zero-tolerance approach to any behavior that could put mail security at risk. The specific number of letters found has not been officially disclosed, but reports describe it as "hundreds."

Local authorities have been notified and are cooperating with the investigation.
