An Airbus A320 Aer Lingus plane traveling from Dublin to Rome was diverted to France's Evreux airbase following a bomb alert, the office of French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu announced Thursday.
The Prime Minister's office is monitoring the situation, officials stated.
This incident follows a series of hoax bomb threats that caused significant disruption at European airports earlier this week. At least seven flights were targeted on Tuesday, with some forced to divert and undergo searches. One Ryanair flight from Dublin to Rome was reportedly escorted by an Italian fighter jet.
Two of the flights that diverted after security scares had departed from the UK. Bomb disposal experts at Rome's Fiumicino airport searched two Ryanair jets, one from Lisbon and another from Dublin, after receiving anonymous tips. Other flights that received alerts included a service from London Heathrow to Warsaw and a Ryanair flight from Manchester to Murcia.
Flights from Copenhagen to Warsaw and Bergamo to Sofia were also grounded due to similar threats. A Ryanair flight from Dublin to Sofia, carrying 185 passengers, was searched upon arrival after a warning was issued. On Monday, a Wizz Air flight from London Luton to Bulgaria was threatened and required escort by a fighter jet.
