A 101-year-old woman, identified as Esther Ogunmabo, has been arrested in Nigeria's Ogun state for allegedly selling cannabis. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) announced the apprehension on Saturday.
Femi Babafemi, the agency's media director, stated that Ogunmabo was found in possession of "retail sachets of skunk, a strain of cannabis weighing 90 grams." She reportedly told investigators that she had turned to selling the drug after a fire destroyed her provisions shop.
The NDLEA alleges that one of Ogunmabo's daughters, residing in Lagos, supplied her with the cannabis every four days. Ogunmabo is accused of then selling the substance in smaller quantities within her community.
NDLEA chief executive Mohamed Marwa has directed that Ogunmabo be granted bail and receive counseling due to her advanced age. She has since been released on bail.
