Xavier Trudeau, 18, the son of former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, recently performed an auto-tuned rap at the Shawarma Fest in Ottawa on June 7. Footage from the event showed a largely silent crowd as Xavier, who also goes by Xav, took the stage. He performed songs from his budding music career, which began in February 2025 with the release of his single, 'Til the Nights Done.'

Xavier donned baggy tan jeans, a black t-shirt, sneakers, and black sunglasses for the performance. While some attendees bopped their heads and recorded him, the crowd did not appear to sing along, and online commentary on the clip expressed criticism.

Despite facing scrutiny over his musical pursuits, Xavier has defended his career choice. In an interview with Vulture, he urged listeners not to dismiss his music based on his father's political career. "If they don’t like my dad, right away, they don’t like me. If you don’t like me because you don’t like my music, and you think it’s the worst thing in the world? Okay, fine. I’ll live with that. But when you don’t even give it a shot? I can’t respect that," he stated.

Xavier acknowledged that his father's public profile has both benefits and drawbacks for his career. He noted that his father's involvement has its challenges but also offers advantages.

Meanwhile, his father, Justin Trudeau, has been publicly visible with pop star Katy Perry. On July 6, Perry and Trudeau made their red carpet debut at the premiere of Perry's concert film during the 25th Annual Tribeca Festival in New York City. Perry, who ended her engagement with actor Orlando Bloom in June 2025, expressed her affection for Trudeau, calling him "the love of my life" during a Q&A session after the screening of "Katy Perry's The Lifetimes Tour - Live From Paris."

Perry stated that she felt more grounded and anchored in her life, attributing this in part to her relationship with Trudeau. She mentioned that they were already a couple during the performances featured in the concert film, which took place in November 2025.

Justin Trudeau was previously married to Canadian TV host Sophie Grégoire, with whom he shares three children: Xavier, Hadrien, and Ella-Grace Margaret Trudeau. Katy Perry has one child, daughter Daisy Dove Bloom, with Orlando Bloom.
