A wrong-way driver on Long Island caused a fatal head-on collision early Sunday morning, killing one person and severely injuring another. The crash occurred on the Northern State Parkway and shut down the westbound lanes for several hours, contributing to traffic disruptions during the Labor Day holiday weekend.
New York State Police reported that a 2007 Ford Escape was traveling the wrong way when it collided head-on with a 2023 Ford Maverick. The driver of the Maverick was pronounced dead at the scene. The operator of the Ford Escape sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of either driver. No charges have been filed as of Sunday afternoon. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
