A Southern California woman has shared her account of being violently attacked during a Fourth of July event at Newport Beach, which saw hundreds of arrests and has prompted a warning from local authorities about a similar planned gathering.
Cassandra Torres recounted the terrifying experience in a video, describing how she was riding an e-bike with friends when a massive crowd descended on the area. She was knocked off her bike and fell unconscious, later learning she had suffered a concussion. When she regained consciousness, she found herself surrounded by people who had called 911.
"Honestly, grateful for all those people," Torres said, her voice emotional. She was told by a witness that she had been pushed off her bike. She was subsequently taken to a hospital, where she was treated for a concussion, injuries to her head and neck, and multiple cuts.
"I've never seen a hospital that busy in my life," Torres told KTLA. "It was supposed to be a safe, fun day, and it turned into a nightmare." She has since described feeling "off" and her friends established a GoFundMe to assist with her medical expenses.
In a separate video posted to Instagram, Torres learned of another planned "Beach Bash" takeover at Huntington Beach and urged caution for those considering attending. Huntington Beach officials confirmed they are aware of the event and have stated they have no intention of allowing it to proceed.
The Huntington Beach Police Department issued a statement indicating they are coordinating with regional law enforcement and will be prepared for the event. "Similar events elsewhere have resulted in violence, vandalism, assaults, thefts, and other criminal activity," the statement read. Police also noted that investigations are ongoing to identify individuals involved in organizing and promoting the event, warning that participants could face arrest and prosecution.
Following the Newport Beach event, more than 400 people were arrested. Authorities reported that the majority of those taken into custody were youths and minors, with nearly half of the arrests being individuals from out of state. Authorities are preparing for potential similar events, emphasizing their commitment to preventing criminal activity.
