A woman has detailed her decade-long battle with a severe alcohol addiction, which she managed to hide behind a seemingly glamorous social life. The individual, identified as Tess, described a period where she spent most of her waking hours either intoxicated or unconscious, frequently requiring emergency medical attention for self-harm injuries.

By the age of 29, Tess was single and deeply entrenched in her addiction. Her experiences led her to seek help at a local Accident & Emergency department, a common occurrence during the height of her struggle. She now works as a therapist specializing in addiction, finding that her past experiences enhance her connection with clients, particularly women who often find it difficult to seek help.

Tess, now 41, believes her alcohol problems may have been linked to symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), recalling a significant struggle with impulse control. Her journey through addiction and recovery has informed her professional work.

She highlights the importance of recognizing warning signs in loved ones who may be struggling with substance abuse, suggesting that a hidden addiction can persist for years despite outward appearances.
