A fatal explosion involving illegal fireworks during a Fourth of July celebration in Chino, California, resulted in the death of one woman and injuries to four others, including a juvenile. The incident occurred Saturday evening when a large quantity of fireworks ignited, authorities reported.

Chino Police were dispatched around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday to a report of a vehicle fire. Upon arrival, officers discovered several injured individuals and a burning vehicle. Detectives believe a significant cache of fireworks exploded, causing the blast and subsequent injuries. Three adults and one juvenile were transported to local hospitals. The woman, in her 20s, succumbed to her injuries, while the other two adults are expected to survive. The juvenile victim has since been released to their guardian.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene following the explosion. Gabriel Gilmore told ABC 7 that he heard the blast and saw what appeared to be illegal fireworks in the trunk of a vehicle, which subsequently ignited. "I don't know how the trunk got lit up, but obviously, you could see from the video that the hatch was busted open and that was where the point of the explosion was," he said.

This incident was one of several fireworks-related fires across the Los Angeles area over the holiday weekend. In Wilmington, a fire involving commercial-grade fireworks in a parking lot critically injured one man and led to the evacuation of nearby residents. Another fire at a commercial building in the Harbor Gateway neighborhood, which involved over 70 firefighters, resulted in no reported injuries. Smaller fires were also reported in Mission Hills and La Habra.
