A 21-year-old woman, Nicki Vine, confronted a thief attempting to steal tools from her father's van, pursuing him with a baseball bat while clad only in a bath towel. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on a Tuesday outside her home in Broadstone, Dorset.
Vine was relaxing in her living room after a bath when she noticed movement on a neighbor's security camera. Upon closer inspection via CCTV, she observed a helmet-clad individual opening the sliding door of her father's van and peering inside. Reacting swiftly, Vine grabbed a baseball bat and ran outside to confront the intruder.
Security footage captured Vine sprinting around a corner, holding the bat in one hand and her towel in the other. The thief, dressed in tracksuit pants, trainers, and a padded jacket, immediately fled the van. He was joined by an accomplice on a motorbike, and Vine was seen throwing the bat at them as they sped past. She also reportedly stepped into the road to confront the fleeing motorcyclists, swinging at them as they drove by.
Vine, who works as a plasterer with her father, Darren, stated that the tools in the van represented their livelihood. She explained that the family had been targeted by thieves previously and she was determined not to let them steal the equipment. After the encounter, she admitted to being physically shaken but felt she had to stand up for herself.
She later shared the security footage on Facebook, detailing the event and expressing her resolve to continue defending their property. Police have been notified, and evidence has been submitted. The incident has garnered significant support from neighbors, according to Vine.
