A woman was found fatally stabbed outside her vehicle near a popular trailhead in McLean, Virginia, on Monday morning. A runner discovered the victim around 7 a.m. in the 8800 block of Georgetown Pike.

Fairfax County Police Captain Jason Chandler stated during a news conference that the woman, who was suffering from upper body trauma, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police described the incident as a fatal stabbing. The vehicle found near the victim was registered to her.

Mclean, located in Fairfax County, is described as one of Northern Virginia's most affluent communities, with a median household income exceeding $250,000 and a median owner-occupied home value over $1.4 million, according to U.S. Census Bureau data.

Authorities have not publicly identified a suspect or released a description, but detectives are actively pursuing leads. Chandler indicated there is "no immediate indication that this was a random act," and repeated this assessment when questioned about potential concerns for nearby residents.

The identity and age of the woman have not been disclosed, beyond her being an adult. Police are working to determine how long she had been at the trailhead and whether she arrived alone. Investigators are canvassing the area for surveillance cameras and seeking video footage from the community to reconstruct the events.

Police are requesting that anyone who may have seen anything suspicious around the time of the discovery contact authorities at 1-866-411-TIPS.
