A grandmother was discovered dead with a suspicious head wound on the couch of her Brooklyn apartment this week, prompting a police investigation. The 59-year-old woman, whose identity has not been officially released by police, was found face-down on her sofa around 9:30 a.m. in her residence on 79th Street near Third Avenue in the Bay Ridge neighborhood.

Members of the NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit made the discovery after the woman's son requested a wellness check, according to law enforcement sources. Paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

Foul play is suspected in the death. Several hours after the body was found, the woman's husband was taken into custody about two miles away in Sunset Park. Sources indicated that the victim's son located him at 52nd Street and Seventh Avenue, where he was subsequently apprehended by officers. It has not yet been determined what role, if any, the husband played in his wife's death.

Neighbors expressed shock and sadness at the news. Sou Heir, who lives across from the couple, stated he had not heard any disturbances, only the couple’s dog barking, which he described as normal. "They looked like they were in love.....but nobody knows what happens behind the doors," Heir said.

Laura Colatraella, a retired attorney and neighbor, last saw the woman walking her dog over the weekend and recalled seeing the husband earlier in the week. She described the victim as a kind and friendly home health care worker who often worked long hours. "She had a really sweet personality – very, very kind, very sweet, nice and friendly to everyone," Colatraella said. "It was very easy to talk to her, we talked a lot."
