A Kentucky woman has been charged with two felony counts for allegedly vandalizing the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., by pouring bubble soap into its fountain and spray-painting graffiti.
Melissa L. Farris, 41, of Elizabethtown, Ky., is accused of depredation against property of the U.S. and destruction of veterans’ memorials. Each charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison if convicted. Prosecutors announced the charges Friday.
The memorial fountain reportedly bore the red graffiti message, "Clean Hands Dirty $".
