Jenna Way, a 33-year-old mother of two from North East England, is on the verge of becoming debt-free after accumulating over £23,000 through impulsive spending on designer items, takeaways, and gifts. Initially treating credit cards as an unlimited resource, Way's spending habits led to a significant financial crisis.

Her struggles began in 2016 after leaving an unhealthy relationship, while simultaneously managing studies, a part-time job, and a new child. At one point, she recalled spending over £1,000 in a single day on clothing, a treadmill, and a designer watch. The debt grew to a point where she faced severe financial hardship, resorting to counting change for basic necessities and relying on processed foods and takeaways.

The turning point for Way came when her credit limit was significantly reduced, making her realize the severity of her financial situation. Feeling overwhelmed and like she was 'drowning,' she decided to actively address the debt.

She and her husband, Callum Way, began meticulously reviewing their finances and implementing a strict budget. Way dedicated herself to researching budgeting techniques online, discovering methods such as 'cash stuffing,' where physical cash is withdrawn and allocated into envelopes for different spending categories to prevent overspending. She also actively sought out and used promotional codes and other saving hacks.

The couple also re-evaluated their spending on significant life events, such as their wedding in 2018, which they managed for just £1,000 with the help of friends and family. Way purchased her wedding dress for £20 from eBay and kept ring costs under £80.

To accelerate debt repayment, Way took on multiple jobs simultaneously, including cleaning and bar work, alongside completing an apprenticeship. At one point, she was juggling four jobs, which led to significant physical and mental exhaustion. However, focusing on career advancement eventually resulted in promotions and pay raises that aided in debt reduction.

As of their recent update, Jenna and Callum Way have paid off more than £16,000 of their debt and anticipate being completely debt-free by 2026. Their spending habits have fundamentally changed, with regular budget tracking and open communication between them. Way continues to utilize cashback and receipt scanning apps, alongside platforms like Vinted, for savings. The family has since been able to enjoy vacations, including a trip to Rome.
