A 56-year-old Massachusetts woman was arrested Tuesday afternoon outside the Plymouth Superior Court for allegedly filming jurors in the Lindsay Clancy triple-murder trial, according to reports. Dawn Light of Sutton was taken into custody by Massachusetts State Police around 3:40 p.m.
While state police have not confirmed the arrest's specific relation to the trial, sources told CBS Boston reporter Kristin Rex that an individual not affiliated with the media was accused of filming jurors. "Jurors allegedly saw the filming happening," Rex reported on X.
Light is scheduled for arraignment Wednesday on a charge of intimidation of a witness, juror, or person furnishing information in connection with criminal proceedings. State police have provided no further details.
The arrest occurred as the jury, comprised of nine women and three men, requested to be dismissed Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., after 23 hours of deliberations. Earlier that day, the 12-person panel informed the judge they were deadlocked, but they were instructed to continue deliberations.
Experts suggest a mistrial is a strong possibility if the jury cannot reach a unanimous verdict. "There was always going to be a very high probability that there would be a deadlock jury in this case," veteran Boston criminal defense attorney Peter Elikann told The New York Post. The jury is expected to resume deliberations Wednesday morning.
Clancy's defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, stated that he would be prepared to retry the case if it resulted in a hung jury. He also commented that Clancy has been "sad" throughout the deliberations and he does not believe she could emotionally handle another trial.
The trial, which began on July 20, centers on the deaths of Clancy's three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan, who were strangled with exercise bands in their Duxbury home on Jan. 24, 2023. Clancy, a 36-year-old former nurse, has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, arguing she was experiencing severe postpartum psychosis, exacerbated by prescribed psychiatric medications, when she killed her children and attempted to take her own life.
