A wealthy psychiatrist, Kathleen Loura, 65, faced legal consequences after an alleged drunken rampage at Nashville International Airport last October. The incident led to her arrest and a night in jail, with onlookers applauding as police escorted her away.
Loura, who resides in a $2.8 million mansion in Arizona, was reportedly denied boarding on a Southwest Airlines flight due to her inebriated state. According to a Southwest worker, Loura then assaulted the employee by hitting her with her purse and putting her hands on her. Loura allegedly called the worker a “mongrel” and a “f**g bh.”
Upon arrival, airport police encountered Loura in a highly agitated state. Bodycam footage captured Loura, wearing two cowboy hats, an ivory dress, and gold jewelry, verbally abusing the officers, threatening to sue the airline, and referring to the Black worker she allegedly assaulted as a “mongrel.” Loura admitted to drinking with a friend throughout the day and claimed to have consumed three glasses of wine. A search of her purse revealed two shooters of vodka and a Pink Whitney vodka cocktail.
Despite being offered the chance to leave the airport voluntarily and offered a refund for her ticket, Loura reportedly refused and insisted on staying with a friend, leading to her arrest. Officers had to restrain Loura as she allegedly lashed out at them. She was later placed in a spit hood in the back of a police SUV after allegedly spitting at officers.
Loura was charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and assault on an officer. She was taken to the Davidson County Detention Center, and a photo released by the police department showed her slumped on a concrete bench. The case against her was closed in April, with Loura receiving 11 months of probation for the assault on a police officer charge, while the other charges were dismissed.
A spokesperson for Southwest Airlines stated, "Our Employees are there for the Safety and Hospitality of all our Customers. Southwest does not tolerate this unruly or abusive behavior."
Loura is married to Ralph Loura, the Chairman of the Board of a tech group. She also serves as an advisor for the same company. The couple frequently travels and shares photos of their experiences. Despite the incident, it remains unclear if it will impact Loura's future travel behavior.
