Kimberly Brown, wife of former BYU football star Curtis Brown, has shared a poignant account of the grief following the drowning death of their 2-year-old son, Haze. The toddler died in the family's swimming pool in Clovis, California, on Sunday, July 26.
A family member discovered Haze unresponsive in the pool and immediately called first responders. Despite attempts at CPR upon their arrival around 8 p.m., the toddler could not be revived and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. A local police detective investigated the scene and determined there were no suspicious circumstances.
In a social media post, Kimberly Brown described the profound pain of adjusting to life without their son. "I miss my baby. I miss him so much it physically hurts. Our bright light and source of pure joy is gone," she wrote, sharing her experience from Haze's room surrounded by his belongings.
She expressed the difficulty of coping with the loss, detailing the constant expectation of hearing his laugh or seeing him run, followed by the painful reminder of his absence. Brown reflected on the future Haze was meant to have with his four older siblings, including 13-year-old triplets.
"He was supposed to grow up with his brothers and sister. He was supposed to run to them when they got home from school with the biggest hug," she wrote. "I want all the days. I want my baby back. I would give anything in this world for the life we were supposed to have."
Curtis Brown was a standout running back at Brigham Young University (BYU) from 2002 to 2006, holding the school record for rushing yards with 3,221 at one point. After an attempt to play in the NFL, he concluded his football career and now works in pharmaceutical sales. The couple has five children in total, with Haze being the youngest.
A GoFundMe page established to support the family has raised over $100,000.
