Karoline Leavitt, the youngest White House press secretary in history, announced Friday that she will be leaving her post to join MAGA Inc., a pro-Trump political action committee.
Leavitt made the announcement during her final trip as press secretary, accompanying President Trump on Air Force One to South Carolina for a midterm campaign rally. She stated that while she will miss her White House role, her children are a higher priority. Leavitt, who is from New Hampshire and turns 29 on Monday, is expected to start her new position after a brief vacation in her home state.
In her new capacity with MAGA Inc., Leavitt is slated to accompany Trump to Dallas in mid-September for the GOP midterm convention. She will retain her access to the presidential plane under her new title.
President Trump expressed his sentiment regarding Leavitt's departure, stating, “I’m gonna miss her.”
The search for Leavitt's successor is ongoing, with a senior administration official describing it as an “open book.” Trump has reportedly considered several potential candidates, including conservative CNN commentator Scott Jennings. He also humorously suggested his longtime aide Margo Martin, known for her behind-the-scenes White House videos, as a possible replacement.
Leavitt decided to leave her current high-profile position shortly after giving birth to her second child in May. She is scheduled to conclude her tenure as press secretary at the end of the current month.
