A wedding celebration was saved by the quick thinking of local restaurants after the hired caterer failed to appear. Kate and Matt Dean, from Skelmersdale, Lancashire, were preparing for their reception in Ormskirk on July 13 when the caterers did not arrive and could not be contacted.
With guests beginning to arrive at the venue, the couple approached three nearby restaurants to see if they could provide food for approximately 100 people. The Piri Piri Grill was one of the first establishments contacted, with Kate Dean asking if they could cater for the event on short notice. According to reports, the restaurant agreed to help.
The couple, who were married at Ormskirk Register Office, had organized the reception for family and friends at Lost and Found Ormskirk. Upon arriving at the venue two hours before the scheduled start, they discovered the caterers were absent. Despite initial distress, Kate Dean adopted a problem-solving approach.
"I'm quite a laid back person anyway, so I was in fire-fighting mode, like we have got all these people coming and no food, 'what are we going to do?'," she stated. She then consulted with Matt's family to ensure they were amenable to her plan.
After securing assistance from local eateries, the wedding party was able to proceed with their celebration. The newlyweds have since expressed their gratitude to the restaurants that intervened, allowing them to enjoy their special day despite the catering mishap.
