Wayne Rooney has publicly shared the results of a recent rhinoplasty procedure aimed at repairing his nose, an injury he sustained twice during his professional football career. The former England player, 40, disclosed the surgery on his podcast, "Stick to United," approximately a week after the operation.
Rooney explained that the first incident occurred in 2015 during a match for Manchester United against Preston in the FA Cup. He later broke his nose a second time in July 2018 while playing for D.C. United against the Colorado Rapids. Describing the second break as significant, Rooney stated it required surgery, which he had postponed until this summer.
He detailed the recovery process, noting the discomfort from internal plastic tubes intended to keep his nostrils open during healing, which he anticipated being removed soon. Rooney mentioned that his teammate Marouane Fellaini also broke his nose during the same 2015 match, though Fellaini missed subsequent games, unlike Rooney.
Multiple nasal fractures can potentially impact the nasal septum and cartilage, affecting breathing. The surgical tubes are a standard part of the healing process for such procedures.
Days after revealing his surgery, Rooney was observed with his wife, Coleen, dropping off their 16-year-old son, Kai, at the Manchester United Carrington Training Complex. Kai, who is part of the club's Under-18 squad and plays as a winger or forward, was heading to a game. The couple also celebrated Kai's academic achievements, as he passed all his GCSE exams and secured a place in sixth form. Coleen Rooney shared her pride on social media, highlighting Kai's success despite a busy schedule.
