Botticelli Foods has issued a recall for Bettergoods Pistachio Nut Butter, sold exclusively at Walmart, due to a potential salmonella contamination risk. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported that the recall was initiated on August 3 after the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services found salmonella during a routine inspection.

The product in question is the Bettergoods Pistachio Nut Butter sold in 6.7-ounce glass jars. It has a UPC code of 194346207961, lot code LB028ACP04, and an expiration date of January 28, 2027. The butter was manufactured in Italy by Gustibus Alimentari Srl and imported by Botticelli Foods, then distributed exclusively by Walmart.

No other nut butter products from the Bettergoods line are affected by this recall. Consumers who purchased the affected pistachio nut butter are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. For inquiries, Botticelli Foods can be reached at 631-543-7000, extension 203, or via email at [email protected].

As of Monday, no illnesses had been reported in connection with this recall. The product was distributed to Walmart stores in 19 states, including Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Washington, and Wyoming.

Salmonella infection can cause symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. While most healthy individuals recover within a few days without specific treatment, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notes that severe cases can lead to more serious complications, particularly in vulnerable populations. Medical attention is advised for those experiencing prolonged diarrhea, high fever, bloody diarrhea, persistent vomiting, or signs of dehydration.
