San Francisco has been selected as the host city for Vogue World in 2027, marking a significant cultural event for a city often characterized by its tech industry and casual attire. The announcement was made by Vogue, which aims to celebrate cities with unique identities and a spirit of innovation.
Anna Wintour, Condé Nast’s chief content officer and global editorial director of Vogue, stated that San Francisco was chosen for its diverse communities, its embrace of the arts and creativity, and its willingness to embrace change. She added that the city's history of standing up for its values makes it an ideal setting for the event.
Vogue World has previously held events in global fashion capitals such as New York, London, and Milan. The 2025 edition, titled "Vogue World: Hollywood," took place in Los Angeles and featured appearances from celebrities including Doja Cat, Gracie Abrams, Nicole Kidman, and Kendall Jenner.
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie welcomed the decision, viewing it as a positive indicator of the city's ongoing resurgence. "Creativity and free expression have been the engine of San Francisco for generations, and that spirit will be on full display at Vogue World 2027," Lurie said in a statement. The city was once infamously described as the "land that style forgot" by fashion writer Guy Trebay, a nod to its residents' preference for practical, fog-friendly clothing often associated with the tech sector.
