A manhunt concluded Saturday with the arrest of Camron Harris, 19, in connection with a shooting that wounded five people outside Virginia State University residence halls. Harris, who is not a student at the university, was found hiding in a closet within a campus dormitory.
Chesterfield County police arrested Harris, of Henrico, Virginia, hours after the shooting, which occurred around 1:28 a.m. on Boisseau Street. One of the five victims was reported to be in critical condition. Police have not released the identities of any of the victims, but stated only one is a university student.
Harris faces felony warrants for four counts of malicious wounding and four counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is being held without bail at the Chesterfield County Jail. Authorities indicated that additional charges may be forthcoming.
The university issued a statement acknowledging the concern the incident has caused within the VSU community and announced an increased police presence on campus as the investigation continues. Students were advised to monitor their VSU email for updates on safety measures and available support resources. The campus lockdown implemented following the shooting has since been lifted.
