Surveillance video captured the moments a teenage girl escaped her alleged attacker, who police say is an illegal immigrant accused of kidnapping and stabbing her in Baltimore. The suspect, Abubakarr Barrie, 23, faces multiple charges related to the incident.
DHS confirmed Barrie is an illegal immigrant from Sierra Leone who entered the U.S. in December 2023 through Arizona. He was apprehended by Border Patrol and subsequently released under the Biden administration. He had previously been arrested in New York City in July on charges of third-degree possession of a forged instrument, and an ICE detainer was lodged at that time. However, he was released by New York City officials, according to DHS.
The alleged attack occurred on Oct. 22, with Barrie's arrest following two days later. ICE lodged a detainer for Barrie the same day he was arrested in Baltimore. DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin stated that the incident would not have occurred without the failures of sanctuary policies, criticizing both the administration's border policies and New York City's decision to release Barrie.
Baltimore Police reported that Barrie picked up the 15-year-old victim and took her to a basement he was renting, where he allegedly stabbed her repeatedly. The victim managed to escape and flee. Barrie is also reported to have worked as an unlicensed cab driver. DHS has urged Baltimore County authorities to honor the ICE detainer and prevent further harm.
