The United States conducted a fresh series of strikes against Iranian missile and radar sites in the Persian Gulf on Tuesday, according to U.S. Central Command. The action came hours before American forces were scheduled to reinstate a naval blockade on Iran's ports and coastline.
"The blockade goes into effect at 4 p.m. ET," Central Command stated. In response, Iran launched its own missiles targeting American bases and allied locations across the region.
One Iranian missile carried a sticker with a message directed at President Donald Trump. The message read: "If they claim to have destroyed all or most of Iran's military capability, yet they are still being slapped around by Iran, there are two reasons. First, they are lying; second, the prayers and blessings of the prophets Moses, Jesus, David and Solomon stand behind the monotheistic nation of Iran." Another sticker referenced Trump, stating, "Hey Trump, our God is the same God who carried the faith of Abraham forward for centuries — the God of Moses and Jesus."
Prior to the strikes, President Trump had rescinded a plan to impose a 20 percent security fee on commercial vessels traversing the Strait of Hormuz. Instead, the U.S. opted for a full naval blockade targeting Iranian shipping.
The recent escalation follows a collapse of a truce last week, during which Iran reportedly struck three vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, leading to two rounds of retaliatory strikes by the U.S. President Trump declared the agreement defunct during a NATO summit in Ankara, stating, "There's something wrong with them. They're cuckoo. As far as I'm concerned, it's over."
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil transport, has been a focal point of conflict since the current war began in February. Each escalation has sent market volatility soaring.
Following Tuesday's strikes, Brent crude prices surpassed $86 a barrel, adding to an 8 percent increase on Monday as traders anticipated potential disruptions to the vital oil route. U.S. forces targeted missile and drone sites, naval capabilities, ammunition storage facilities, and communication networks.
Over the past week, Iran has claimed responsibility for strikes in Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, and Qatar, targeting Middle Eastern countries that host U.S. military bases.
