The U.S. military conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel in the Caribbean on June 21, 2026, which officials alleged was involved in narco-trafficking operations. The strike, directed by Gen. Francis L. Donovan, resulted in the deaths of two individuals.

Six male survivors were rescued following the engagement. The U.S. Southern Command stated that it immediately notified the U.S. Coast Guard to activate the Search and Rescue system for the survivors.

According to military intelligence, the vessel was transiting along known narco-trafficking routes in the Caribbean and was actively engaged in such operations. This incident is part of a broader campaign initiated by the Trump administration aimed at eliminating alleged narco-terrorists. Since September, these strikes have resulted in over 200 deaths.

The Pentagon has not released the identities of those killed in these strikes since last fall, nor has it provided evidence of drugs being on board the targeted vessels. The administration's actions have drawn scrutiny from Democrats and some Republicans, including Sen. Rand Paul. Paul has raised concerns about individuals being killed without due process and the potential for harming innocent people.

In January, Paul stated that some colleagues who advocate for the value of life do not appear to care about individuals on these vessels, suggesting they might be poor individuals from Venezuela and Colombia. He also referenced Coast Guard statistics indicating a significant percentage of boarded vessels suspected of drug trafficking are found to be innocent.

Human rights groups have also condemned these attacks, characterizing them as "extrajudicial killings."
