U.S. forces resumed strikes against targets associated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Tuesday, according to a statement from U.S. Central Command (Centcom). Centcom accused the IRGC of "recent attempted attacks" against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and "American service members deployed to the region."
Centcom reported that the U.S. strikes began at 12:00 ET (16:00 GMT). Iranian state media indicated that four projectiles had hit the counties of Chabahar and Konarak. Explosions were also reportedly heard on Qeshm Island and in Bandar Abbas.
U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed the "large and powerful" strikes, framing them as a response to Iran's alleged missile launch at a U.S. military base in Jordan and its attempts to deploy sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump issued a warning that Iran would face further, more severe attacks if it retaliated, stating, "It will not be the biggest attack of them all, that is waiting in the wings and, when it is over, there will be very little left of the Islamic Republic of Iran."
The IRGC, through spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi, stated that the U.S. would regret the new attacks and that severe punishment awaited the nation. This latest action follows the first known U.S. strikes against Iran since late July, when forces attacked two rocket launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz.
