Michael Nicosia, 31, of Hicksville, Long Island, has found an unexpected surge in romantic attention after returning to live with his parents following a period of unemployment and personal setbacks. Nicosia, formerly of Goldman Sachs, stated that he received over 100 date requests in July alone after a clip of him was featured on the social media dating page Hot and Single. This attention has been likened to the fictional character George Costanza from "Seinfeld," who famously used his unemployed and live-at-home status as a dating tactic.
Nicosia's situation took a downturn in early 2026. While living in Dallas, he sustained a broken foot and ankle injury after a fall, requiring him to wear a boot and stay away from the gym for months. This was followed by the death of his Australian Shepherd, Rocky, a breakup with his girlfriend, and ultimately, a layoff from his investor-relations role at Goldman Sachs. His car also broke down, leaving him without transportation.
Feeling isolated and with limited local connections in Texas, Nicosia made the decision to move back in with his parents, Mike and Luba, and his brother, Daniel, in Hicksville in late June. He described his life at that point as resembling the biblical Book of Job. Despite the challenging circumstances, his family offered support, with his father even suggesting an apartment in the city to aid in meeting people.
Seeking to re-establish himself, Nicosia eventually contacted the Hot and Single social media page. The page featured a clip of him, which rapidly gained traction. The post garnered over 2,000 likes and approximately 450 comments, with many expressing admiration for his appearance and personality. Nicosia, who also pursues content creation under the alias "Mikey Meatball Eats," noted that the women expressing interest seemed unfazed by his living or employment situation. The dating app Cuffed Dating also conducted an interview with him.
Since the feature, Nicosia has reportedly received around 150 date requests and has gone on five selective dates. He is also reportedly in the process of being cast for unannounced dating shows. Alongside his renewed social life, Nicosia is actively interviewing for new positions and expressed optimism about his future, stating that he is building a new life.
