Two underage women were arrested in Newport Beach, California, after attempting to use fake identification. Body camera footage released by the Newport Beach Police Department captured officers confronting the pair outside a bar on West Oceanfront.
During the encounter, an officer asked one of the women where she was from, to which she initially responded Washington state. When asked about her schooling, she claimed to attend Illinois State University while stating her family resided in Massachusetts. The officer pointed out the discrepancy, noting her ID indicated Massachusetts while she claimed to be from Washington. The woman then asked if Massachusetts was located in Washington, a statement that prompted a look of disbelief from the officer.
The woman subsequently admitted to being 20 years old and confessed to attending the University of Southern California. She also stated that her friends were also using fake IDs. The officers informed her that they had already arrested 10 individuals.
The Newport Beach Police Department shared the video as part of a public awareness campaign designed to deter underage drinking and driving, particularly during the spring break and summer seasons. The department and local businesses are reportedly vigilant in checking identification to prevent such incidents.
