A 38-year-old Ukrainian woman, Iryna Gorb, was arrested by plainclothes Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on July 22 at San Francisco International Airport. The arrest occurred after Gorb arrived on a flight from Portland.
Video footage of the incident, recorded by Richmond City Councilmember Doria Robinson, shows Gorb appearing to plead for assistance as she was taken into custody. A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security stated that Gorb had overstayed her visa and had been living in the United States unlawfully for approximately 15 years. The department also indicated that Gorb resisted arrest.
Gorb is currently being held at the California City Detention Facility, where she awaits removal proceedings.
