Ukraine conducted one of its most extensive aerial assaults on Russia to date on Sunday, deploying hundreds of drones and resulting in at least six fatalities. The attacks mark an escalation as Ukrainian forces increasingly target the Russian heartland.
Russia's Ministry of Defense reported intercepting 822 Ukrainian drones overnight, with approximately 600 detected approaching the Moscow region. About a third of these drones were reportedly destroyed over the capital itself.
In the southwestern Rostov region, five people were killed when drones struck private homes, damaged a railway station, and ignited a forest fire, according to Governor Yury Slyusar. Separately, an 83-year-old man died in the Moscow region after a drone hit his home, Governor Andrey Vorobyov stated. Vorobyov also confirmed a fire at a warehouse belonging to the Russian online retail giant Wildberries in the town of Podolsk was sparked by a distinct attack.
Large plumes of smoke and flames rose from burning Wildberries warehouses following a Ukrainian drone attack in the Moscow region.
