A British YouTube influencer, known online as "Stuu," will be extradited to Poland to face charges of child sex offenses after his appeal to the High Court was dismissed.
Stuart Kluz-Burton, who gained fame for videos about Minecraft and comedy sketches, boasting 4.1 million followers on his main channel, had his extradition order upheld. He faces allegations of sexual activity with girls under 15 and inducing minors to drink alcohol, stemming from incidents in 2015 and 2018.
The allegations, part of a wider scandal in Poland known as "Pandoragate," surfaced online around 2023. Kluz-Burton was arrested in the UK in October 2023. His defense had argued that the extradition warrant was issued under political pressure, citing statements made by then-Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki shortly before Kluz-Burton's arrest by Interpol. Morawiecki had publicly addressed the scandal, stating that "deviant" behaviors would be eradicated.
However, the High Court judges, Lord Justice Holgate and Mr. Justice Johnson, ruled that while the case gained high profile due to the nature of the allegations and Kluz-Burton's fame, it constituted a routine criminal investigation. They stated that politicians' public statements, while seeking political capital, were directed at the public, police, and prosecutors, not the court, and did not indicate a lack of independence in the judicial process.
Kluz-Burton, who holds dual British-Polish citizenship, began his YouTube career in Poland in 2014. He later moved back to the UK. The Polish arrest warrant indicates a maximum penalty of 12 years' imprisonment for the alleged offenses. The High Court's decision means Kluz-Burton will be returned to Poland to stand trial.
